The Centrale des Syndicats du Quebec (CSQ), the third largest labour federation in Quebec, has passed a decisive BDS resolution. CSQ represents over 180,000 workers. The resolution is a major step forward for the Palestinian solidarity movement in Quebec.
It has been decided that:
– The CSQ responds favorably to the call for boycott, divestments and sanctions against the state of Israel issued by 172 Palestinians organizations.
– The CSQ joins the international campaign calling for boycott, divestments and sanctions against the state of Israel.
– In addition, the CSQ has committed to promote the boycott campaign and encourage its members to support the Palestinian people in its daily resistance to end the Israeli occupation.
– The CSQ support to boycott, divestments and sanctions against Israel will be continued until Israel complies to international law and the universal principles of human rights.
The resolution was presented by Mme Monique Pauzé, president of Champlain Teachers Union, one of the biggest members of the CSQ.
Unions which have previously supported the BDS call, most notably CUPE Ontario, have come under extreme pressure from pro-Israel lobby groups to reverse the decision.
